Atlanta Falcons at Pittsburgh

Predictions

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be facing a team that will challenge them in all aspects of the game in the Falcons this Sunday September 12th.

Pittsburgh is known to be a pretty solid home team, winning six of eight total games in 2009, however, their currently listed as a 2.5 dog due to some serious troubles in the quarterback department.

The Steelers will be without their starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger who was originally suspended for six games due to an alleged sexual assault against a drunk woman that didn’t file any charges in the bathroom of a night club. The NFL has however trimmed the suspension down to 4 weeks.

After injuring himself Byron Leftwich has also been ruled out as starting qb for week one of the season.Originally panned as a stand-in starting quarterback for Big Ben, Byron hasn’t practiced at all this week, and is out courtesy of a knee injury.

That brings us to Dennis Dixon of Oregon starting quarterback for the Steelers in game 1 of their season.

Word on the net is that the Steelers will likely take advantage of the Forest Gump like running skills brought to the game by Rashard Mendenhall, runningback.

Even after Roethlisberger returns from suspension, the teams running game will still key, though the team will be able to throw the ball more, the Steelers know that they need to beef up their 4th quarter running game to avoid blowing any more 4th quarter leads like they did last season.

In effort to stop that leak, which cost them 5 games in 2009, the teams’ picked up Maurkice Pouncey, a good addition thus far.

On defense the Steelers are strong, and healthy. A player to watch for sure is Troy Polamalu. If he goes out again this year, everything changes. He’s key to the teams success. You just can’t bring in someone that can do what this guy can do!

Outside linebackers Lamarr Woodley and James Harrison also make an amazing team. These two are responsible for 23.5 sacks together last season!

On other area the Steelers can easily improve is in the kicking department. During week 2 of 2009 Reed cost the stealers a win against Chicago by missing a 38-yard kick and then a 43-yarder. Not that we’re beating him over it, he only missed two other kicks the rest of the year, both over 50 yards.
