UFC Odds
UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) is a major mixed martial arts sport that attracts a lot of spots bettors from all over the world. Whether you are familiar with the fighters or not, betting on UFC matches makes watching a fight only that much more interesting.
UFC odds are determined by a lot of factor, like the size of each contestant, their past experience, age and overall UFC and mixed martial arts (MMA) match records. The oddsmakers input all of this information to come up with which fighter is expected to win the bout, and in what round. UFC odds will even determine the likelihood of the match resulting in a submission win.
Based on the UFC odds as revealed by the oddsmakers, bettors can place wagers on each individual outcome of a UFC match-up. Most punters simply bet on one fighter to beat another.
UFC odds are very easy to understand if you know what you’re looking at. They are generally based on money line odds, with a negative (-) in the favorite’s column, and a positive (+) in the underdogs column. The number found after the (-) or (+) relays the bet size and corresponding winning bet amount based on $100.
Betting on the Favorite
Let’s say a bet on the favored fighter has UFC odds of -150. This means you would have to wager $150 in order to win $100. Of course, this is the favored fighter, so chances are you will win if the expected outcome occurs.
Betting on the Underdog
If the favored fighter’s UFC odds are -150, the underdog’s UFC Odds should be +150. In this case, a $100 bet would result in a $150 winning payout. The payoff is higher because the wager does not correspond with the expected outcome of the fight.
As you can see, both favorite and underdog UFC odds are based on $100, but one to bet $100 and one to win $100. To make it easy to remember, a negative number shows the amount you stand to lose (what you have to bet to win $100), while a positive number show the amount you stand to win (if you bet $100).
It is important to note that the UFC odds are rarely going to be so even, such as the -150 and +150 example above. We used this to make it easier to understand. The oddsmaker will always set the overall UFC odds into their favor, such as -200 versus +160, or -160 versus +130. This is to encourage more bets on the underdog, which typically results in more profits for the sportsbook.
Prop Bets
There are generally proposition bets that can also be placed in UFC betting matches. These have bigger UFC odds for the player as they are more difficult to win.
Common UFC Prop Bets Types
By 3-Round Decision: The bettor chooses which fighter will win by a 3-round decision. UFC matches only last three rounds. If no fighter has won by the end of round three, the judges decide the winner.
Inside Distance: The bettor chooses a specific contestant to win the match before the end of the 3rd round, either by judges calling the match or by submission.
By Submission: The bettor chooses a specific contestant to win by submission. The opposing contestant must tap out before the end of round 3 for the bet to be won.
